For the Third year, YPA is proud to sponsor two scholarships in memoriam of Wanda Alston and Cheryl Spector. Wanda Alston dedicated twenty years of service to the National Organization for Women (NOW) and before she was taken away from the community, Wanda was appointed the head of the D.C.s Office of LGBT Affairs.The second scholarship pays tribute to Cheryl Ann Spector, who spent over twenty years attending and videotaping virtually every significant GLBT event in the Washington Metropolitan Area. Cheryl's passion and commitment was to political advocacy as well as to cultural understanding and before she was taking away by Leukemia Cheryl volunteers for Rainbow History Project and served on the Board of Directors. Youth Pride Alliance launched these scholarships to award two people who best exemplify the spirit and dedication that Wanda and Cheryl held for the Gay, Lesbian, Bi-Sexual, Transgender, Queer, and/or Questioning community. While enrollment to an institution of higher education is not required, it is strongly encouraged. The Scholarships are open to all people at any educational level and under the age of 25. Eligibility is restricted to those residing in the District of Columbia Metropolitan area (i.e. Arlington County, Fairfax County, Montgomery County, Prince George’s County).
