Youth Pride Day to Be Held in P Street Park for First Time

WASHINGTON, DC (April 3, 2001) - The Youth Pride Alliance announced today that they have moved the location of the annual Youth Pride Day celebration to P Street Park from Dupont Circle.

The 5th annual Youth Pride Day will be held in P Street Park (part of Rock Creek Park located at P and 23rd Sts., N.W.) on Saturday, April 21st, 2001 from noon until 5:30pm. The event will feature national speakers, live entertainers and over thirty booths from a variety of regional community organizations. Youth Pride Day has been previously held in Dupont Circle.

With one-third of the circle closed to renovate the fountain, it was determined that there wasn't enough room to hold Youth Pride Day in Dupont Circle. Youth Pride Day Director Sean Gallavan had a team of organizers survey different locations in the DC area, and it was decided to hold the 5th annual Youth Pride Day in P Street Park.

"We are very pleased with our new location in P Street Park," said Gallavan. "The park is a beautiful open space with enough room for our growing event. We're very excited about this years event."

Organizers are now in the process of announcing the new location and plan on having volunteers positioned throughout the neighborhood to direct youth to the new location. The Youth Pride Alliance is also counting on its 25 member organizations to assist in spreading the news about the new location.

"Our members have always been very good at spreading the word about our events," said Gallavan. "We are also going to be counting on community members to assist in telling folks that we have moved to P Street Park."
